The Song about the Golden Gooseberries !

When Bhagavan Sankara was seeking food, a poor woman came out of the house and gave him one gooseberry in brine. Actually there was no food in the house, as she was in dire straits. Sankara just touched the pot and lo and behold ! it was raining golden gooseberries from Heaven !

He composed verses in praise of the Goddess of Wealth, Laxmi and these verses came to be known as Kakakadhara Stotra.

It is generally belived that chanting these verses will save man from the vicious clutch of poverty !

There was Bhagavan Sankara with his Magic Wand
From Heaven bringing forth gooseberries golden!
The poor woman fell at His feet
He who had achieved union with the Divine !
